Garden Design Consultation Services
Regardless of the services you require, the first step will be a formal consultation which will typically involve a site visit. This provides an opportunity for us to discuss your ideas and requirements. I can then prepare a brief feasibility statement and fee proposal (within 5 working days) for your consideration. If your project is more complex, this consultation period can be extended e.g. to include further site analysis and options appraisals. I can support you to involve other professionals such as surveyors if required.
Bespoke Planting Design for Existing Beds
Whilst planting design services can be part of a full garden redesign (see Step 2. Detailed Design Services below), I am also happy to provide planting plans and schedules for any existing beds you may have. This is a popular service with keen gardeners who want to do the planting themselves and just need a bit of guidance on what to plant where.
Full Garden Redesign Services
Some clients will request a full package of services, others only require a concept design. Some like to be very involved, others prefer to take a back seat. Some are in a hurry, others like to spread the design process over several years. I can work flexibly to meet your needs.
Step 1. Concept Design Services
The initial consultation period provides all the information we need to proceed to the next step. Once the design brief has been finalised, the aim is to create a provisional concept design package to give you an idea of what the finished project will look like. You will be provided with a concept master plan and supporting mood board/s and perspective drawings. I provide drawings created using the latest computer aided design (CAD) software as standard. You have the option to upgrade one or more drawings to the more photorealistic style you see here which I create using specialist rendering software. You can see the difference in styles in my visualisations for an accessible design. I can also provide 3D computer model animations and interactive files to help you get a feel for what is being proposed if required.
Step 2. Detailed Design Services
At this stage, the aim is to pull together the package of documents and drawings required by a contractor to actually get your project built. Depending on your needs, this can include the detailing for; landscaping (e.g. specifications and layout plans), construction (e.g. construction drawings), and planting (e.g. planting plans and schedules). I can also support you to secure any necessary permissions to ensure your project can go ahead, e.g. planning permission if required.
Step 3. Design Realisation Services
This is the building phase, making your vision a reality. Depending on your needs, this can involve; assisting you to fulfil your responsibilities under the CDM 2015 regulations and to appoint a contractor to physically build your garden (the tendering process), monitoring progress (overseeing the work) and liaising with the contractor/s on your behalf, and other project administration duties. Alternatively, if you’d like to be more hands on, I can act in a purely advisory capacity at this stage.
Bespoke Design Follow-up Services
Whether I’ve provided a small planting design for an existing bed, or supported you through the complete garden redesign process, I can provide management and development recommendations to ensure your project looks and functions at its best as it grows and evolves. This can be tailored to meet your needs. You may just want some brief written guidance or you may prefer site visits after your project has been completed.
